We are currently reading aloud A Long Walk To Water by Linda Sue Park. It is an amazing novel that shows the difficulties of life in places like Sudan in two different time periods of the past(1985) and present-day Sudan(2008), through the eyes of two 11 year-old narrators. Based on the true story of Salva Dut, the founder of Water for South Sudan.
Currently, we are about 1/3 of the way through the novel. And the students are researching water-borne illnesses that affect the people in countries like Sudan (Dysentery, Typhoid, Cholera and Guinea Worm). It is scary to know that there are still places in the world that do not have access to clean drinking water.

Today, our class started a lesson on line dancing, specifically the 'Crawl'. The students are naturals, and we will continue to work on refining our moves. In no time, we will all be dancing to actual songs from beginning to end! Click here to access the Watermelon Crawl Line Dance instruction video.

Who was the first civilization? Were the ancient Mesopotamians the first civilization? What major advances were they able to accomplish during the reign of their four very different empires: Akkadians, Babylonians, Assyrians and Neo-Babylonians. From military strategies to a wonder of the world, these four empires demonstrate the early strengths and successes of Ancient Mesopotamia.
